This week: 3-23-09
This is the first week of the last grading period!
- All students’ AR goals for this grading period are online now. They should be at 10% of their new goal by Friday.
- Report cards are out today and need to be signed and returned by Thursday.
- There are 2 papers that the office needs filled out and returned by Thursday. These papers are for next year.
- There is spelling and memory test on Friday.
- The boy’s basketball team is leaving Thursday afternoon for Nationals in Indiana.
- We are starting a new book: Bud, Not Buddy this week.
- To be counted to attend the 7th grade trip, all students and chaperones should have AT LEAST $50 paid towards their balance.
- Achievement testing begins next week and it is VERY important that your child is here for all of the days. When registering for high school classes next year, the counselors use their grades from 7th & 8th grade and their test scores from 7th grade. This gives them an idea of what classes to place the child in for their freshman year of high school.

Thursday 2/5/09 is the CLS Academic Fair and spelling bee.
7th graders must be in the computer lab from 5- 5:30 p.m. They will be graded on their power point presentations. They can eat and shop the book fair after 5:30 p.m.
8th graders must be in the science lab from 5- 5:30 to give presentations of their simple machines. They then must be in the computer lab from 5:30- 6:00.
They can eat and shop the book fair after 6:00 p.m.
The Spelling Bee will begin at 6:15 p.m.

Reminders for December 8th :
This will be my last week to write a reminder note b/c I will be induced on the 14th. I will not be here for the last week before Christmas break and a couple weeks after. I hope all of you have a great Christmas and New Year and I look forward to seeing everyone when I come back in January.
· There is a big vocabulary test over vocabs 1 & 2 tomorrow.
· There will be a test over the digestive system (labeling) next Tuesday (Dec 16th) and students will receive the study sheets Friday.
· There is a memory test Friday over the 2nd & 3rd commandments and pg 134.
· There is a memory test over ch 15 on Friday. Words and worksheets went home today.
· The students drew names today for their Christmas exchange partner. They will need to bring the gift by Next Thursday (Dec 18) and will exchange at the party on Friday, December 19th. They have also been assigned a food item to bring to the party. We will be ordering pizza again and charging the students a lunch for the day. They will be dismissed from school at noon. I hope to come by the party (if I am feeling up to it J )
· Students should be at 70% of their A.R. goal by Friday. Also- over Christmas break, students will need to read a book and be prepared to take a A.R. test when they get back on January 5th.
· A rough draft of their research paper is due on MyAccess by Friday night at 9:00 p.m.

Weekly Reminders 12-2-08
· There is a VERY LARGE Science Exam over chapter 16 on Friday. Study guides went home today. This exam is worth 700 points and students need to put time and effort into studying for it. It will include information from the study guide, the chapter and labeling the muscles and bones.
· The 6th- 8th choir will be singing for the funeral of Mrs. Eads tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. Mrs. Eads is a church member and her children attended Christ Lutheran School. Students should wear black pants and a long white oxford shirt tomorrow to school.
* The Christmas Program is Thursday @ 6:00 and it counts as a double music grade. All students must be there!
· There will be a memory test over pages 127 & 131 in their religion books and will be tested on Friday.
· The spelling test over chapter 14 will be tested on Friday.
· We started a new book The Westing Game this week and students received their first vocabulary sheet. There will be a test over the first two vocabs next Tuesday.
· All students should be at 60% of their A.R. goal by Friday.
· Please remember to get the fruit fundraiser orders in this week!
· As a school, we collected over 1100 canned goods for the Neighborhood house and will be continuing to collect until Christmas. The 7th grade collected over 350 cans alone!
· The varsity boy’s basketball team will be leaving early on Friday to attend the Green Park Lutheran Basketball Tournament in St. Louis, MO. Good Luck!

Weekly Reminders 7th Grade: 11-25-08
- This is a short week in observance for Thanksgiving. We will be dismissing at noon on Wednesday and students will be served lunch after the service.
- There is no spelling this week.
- There is a memory test over page 118 & 123 in their religion book and will be tested on Wednesday.
- Students will be singing on Wednesday in the Thanksgiving service. They are to wear black pants and a long-sleeved white oxford shirt.
- There will be a test over the muscular system on Wednesday and a quiz over chapter 16 lesson 2 tomorrow in science.
- We will be finishing Wrinkle in Time this week and taking the book test, A.R. test and finishing the last packet by Wednesday.
- Midterms are being sent home today and should be signed and returned by Wednesday.
- All students should be at 50% of their AR goal by Wednesday and at 60% when they come back from Thanksgiving. Students should be ready to take a test over a book they finished on break.
- There is a 7th math test tomorrow over Chapter 4
- Mrs. Mooney’s language class has big deadlines for their research paper. They will need a finished outline, 30 note cards, and 5 source cards after Thanksgiving.

Reminders for this week in the 8th grade:
· Memory is over pg 112 (psalm 51:5) and page 114 (John 1:29) and will be tested on Friday.
· There will be a test over ch 13 spelling words on Friday.
· There is a BIG science quiz over the skeletal system (bones test) tomorrow. Students received their study sheet last week and must label and spell correctly the bones of the body.
· 7th grade has begun their research paper for language. They will need 3 source cards correctly filled out by Friday.
· There is a BIG HISTORY TEST on Thursday. Please help your child study!!!
They have the study guide questions and essay questions already.
· All students should be at 40% of their A.R. goal by Friday. This week they will be allowed to check out 3-5 books for the next 2 weeks and over Thanksgiving break.
· Any outstanding money needs to be turned into the office ASAP! Prizes are kept in the office until all money is turned in.
· Grades for midterms end this Friday and all missing work needs to be turned in. Midterms will go home w/ Tuesday folders next week.

This week’s reminders for the 7th Grade:
· Happy Veteran’s Day! The students made cards and thank you letters for the local veterans.
· Congratulations to the CLS Varsity Comets on their State Championship Win!
· Memory test will be Friday over pages 104 and 108 in their religion books.
· Spelling test will be Friday over chapter 12 words. The words went home today and there are 2 worksheets this week that are due tomorrow.
· Research projects for Language class started yesterday. The students will be picking their person to research today and begin. They will be able to do some of their research in computer class and in open lab times after school. This paper is very specific in the way it must be written and cited. It is worth over 1000 points in Language and 400 points in History. Please see the schedule for due dates and work schedule for the paper.
· All students should be at 30% of their A.R. goal and 75% comprehension by Friday. Please continue to check on clspeoria.org in the Accelerated Reader section for their tests scores and goals.
· There are graded Science and Religion tests in their Tuesday folder. They performed great as a class on their ch 3 Science exams! The class average was a 94% A!!!! Please compare how your child did based on this average.
· There is a large ch 3 & 4 reading packet due Friday that was given on Monday.

Happy Election Day!! Here is what is going on this week in the 7th grade:
· Memory test over page 99 and “What does this mean” for the First Article. There will be a Unit II religion test on Monday.
· Spelling test over ch 11 will be Thursday of this week because I will be gone Friday for the state tournament. Words and worksheets went home today. The spelling worksheet for this week will require a dictionary to look up each word.
· There is a large reading packet that students received today over ch 1 & 2 in Wrinkle in Time. The packet is due Friday and we will begin reading the book today in class.
· There was a history test today in class.
· There is a large Science Exam tomorrow over chapter 3. The note packet given to students 3 weeks ago is also due before the test along with the study guide that was given out today.
· Casual Day is Friday.
· All students should be @ 20% of their A.R. goal by Friday. You may go onto the website and check Accelerated Reader to see how your child is performing on tests and what percentage they are.
· If you still have fundraiser money out, please get it into the office ASAP.

Parents:
This week in the 7th grade we have a busy week!
- Memory test is on pages 86, 90, 95 in their religion book and will be tested on Friday.
- Spelling test is over ch 10 and will be tested on Friday. The words were sent home on Monday and their spelling worksheets are due Wednesday.
- There will be a final Ella Enchanted vocabulary exam on Friday. This exam is over vocabs 5 & 6 and they went out this week.
- There are ½ days on Wednesday and Thursday due to parent- teacher conferences. Please look at your scheduled times to meet with me about your child’s progress.
- Friday is Halloween and also the last Friday of the month. This means that for $2.00 students may “purchase” a casual day. Money must be turned in by Friday morning. If students would like to bring in treats, they may but please make sure there is enough for all 26 students.
- There is a BIG science project over the rain forest due Friday. Students will need a poster board and access to internet for pictures and information they can type and present on Friday.
- Mrs. Rudebeck also has assigned the class a project in History due Monday. It is a colonial house and students have the details already.
- Congratulations to the 17 students in this class who earned a fun trip to Apple Blossom Farm! They will leave on Thursday morning at 8:30 and return before lunch at 11:30. This trip is a reward for students who have has less than 2 late papers for the grading period and also have good behavior and grades. The cost is $5.00 for the trip and $3.00 for the bus totaling $8.00 and is due by Thursday.

Weekly Announcements:
- This is the final week in the grading period! Please see the note that went home scheduling parent- teacher conferences next week. Report cards will be passed out at that time.
- This Sunday is Christian Education Sunday. 7th graders will have to be at both services and are welcome to stay for Sunday school in-between services. Not only does this count as a school day, this also counts as a double grade for their music class. Students must be at Christ Lutheran Church by 7:40 a.m. dressed in a LONG-SLEEVED white oxford (dress) shirt and black pants. Please make sure your child’s shirt is ironed with no colored shirts underneath. They will be finished around noon.
- The memory test for this week will be Friday. It will be over Romans 3: 22-24& 28 because this is the verse they will have to say in church on Sunday.
- All students should be at 100% of their A.R. goal and at least 75% of their goal for comprehension by Friday. Please encourage them to read this week!
- The spelling test over ch 8 will be Friday and the worksheets are due Wednesday of this week.
- We will be finishing Ella Enchanted this week in class and taking a test over the book. A vocabulary test over vocabs 3 &4 will be Wednesday.
- McDonald’s Night is Tuesday on Western Ave. If you buy food inside the restaurant, the school will receive 20% of their profits. Come out and support the school! Students who attend will get a special recess on Wednesday.
- All 7th & 8th graders are to write an essay (100 words) about the difference Christ Lutheran School has made in their life. Some essays will be chosen to be read by the child at upcoming services.
- Please see the green note in your child’s Tuesday folder about your scheduled time for parent-teacher conferences. Please call me or email me if there are any problems that arise and you cannot make that time. If you have not turned in your note, please do so as the available times are filling up quickly.

This week in 7th Grade:
· Memory test is over 1 John 3:15-16 and Psalm 11:9 on pages 73 & 76 in their religion books and will be tested on Friday.
· The 1st vocabulary exam over vocabs 1 & 2 for Ella Enchanted is tomorrow. Please help your child study these words and their meanings. They will also have to use 6 in a sentence.
· There is a BIG ch 2 Science Exam on Thursday. Students will receive their study guide tomorrow.
· This is the 9th week in the grading period and all students should be at 90% of their A.R. goal by Friday.
· We will be reading through ch 18 in their Ella Enchanted book this week. Students may re-read the chapters at home to ensure solid comprehension. There will be a quiz this week over the chapters.
· Congrats to the CLS Varsity Volleyball Team for winning the 19th Annual CLS Volleyball Tournament this weekend!
· Please turn in all fundraiser money by Friday to the office.
· There are graded quizzes from last week including science, memory, reading and history in the Tuesday folder.

7th Grade Reminders for This Week:
· Memory is on page 65 & 66 of their religion book. It is 1 Peter 2:15-17 and will be tested on Thursday.
· The spelling test is over chapter 6 and will be tested on Thursday. Words and worksheets went home yesterday and they are due tomorrow.
· There is no school this Friday due to the CLS volleyball tournament. Students are encouraged to cheer on their Comets this weekend. The Comets play @ 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
· Thursday is tournament t-shirt day! If you purchase a tournament t-shirt (on sale Wednesday after school and Thursday morning) they may wear jeans and tennis shoes to school. The shirt may also be used for P.E. clothes after the weekend.
· The first vocab for Ella Enchanted went home yesterday and the test for vocabs 1 & 2 will be next Wednesday.
· There will be a ch 2 science exam next Friday.
· Students should be at 75% of their A.R. goal by Thursday of this week.
· 7th grade received a new prompt they will be writing about for My Access this week.

This week in the 7th Grade:
· Memory test will be tomorrow over pg 59 (hymn verse) and John 1:51 on pg 62 of their religion books.
· This is only a 3 day week. There are teacher conferences in Springfield, IL on Thursday and Friday. Next week there will be no school on Friday as well due to the CLS Volleyball Tournament.
· There is no spelling lesson this week due to the shortened week!
· Students should be at 60% of their A.R. goal by Wednesday. All students need to finish a book over this long weekend because next week, their goal will be 75%.
· There will be a math test over ch 2 in 7th math tomorrow.

7th Parents and Students:
· There will be a memory test over Matt 10:37 on pg 50 and Deut 6:13 on page 53 of their Religion book.
· Spelling test will be Thursday this week over Ch 5 due to a lack of time on Friday. The worksheets for ch 5 and words were given to students Monday.
· We will be doing a mock trial from Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry in class on Friday. Each student has been assigned a part and their preparation and performance will be graded. Some students are going to dress their part and may bring clothes to change into later.
· Friday is pizza day and also an optional casual day. If a student wants to take a casual day, they can bring in $2.00 by Friday. All money will be going to the CLS Roof Fund.
· We will be starting our Fairy Tale Unit in reading this week in class.
· There is a science assignment that requires out of class observation and is due on Thursday.
· There are many students who are overdue on lunch fines. Please pay the office ASAP! You may check your balance on teacherease.com
· All students should be at 50% of their A.R. goal and at least 75% comprehension by Friday for Fun Friday. Students with less than ½ of this will be on silent lunch and detention. You may check your child’s progress on the Accelerated Reader site of our website. Also, please make note of their A.R. grade on midterms.
· Midterms are going home in their Tuesday Folders. Please sign and return by tomorrow!

7th Grade:
· There are many graded tests in the Tuesday folder from last week. Science, history, memory, spelling, religion, math and reading quizzes are graded. Please check these and see how your child performed.
· There is a memory test over Hebrews 11:1 on page 43 of their religion book and 2 Peter 2:6-9 on page 47.
· Spelling test for ch 4 will be tested on Friday. Worksheets are due Wednesday and Thursday of this week.
· The casual day for students that sold 15 items will be Thursday.
· Students should be at 40% of their A.R. goal by Friday and have an average of at least 75% for comprehension on the tests they have taken.
· Grades for midterms will be closed this Friday and the midterm report will go home next Tuesday with their Tuesday folders.
· There is a vocabulary exam over vocabs 3 & 4 tomorrow.
· The lab write-up for the science experiment about bean plants is due tomorrow.

This week in the 7th grade:
· Please see the note handed out yesterday about fundraisers. We need a greater effort for selling these items. The order forms will be accepted as late as Friday. Even if you can only sell one or two items, that will help our school!
· Memory test for this week is Psalm 37:5, 1st Commandment, and 1st Peter 5:5. It will be tested on Friday morning.
· Spelling words for ch 3 were given today and will be tested on Friday.
· There is a BIG Ch 1 Science Test on Wednesday. A study guide was given today and will be due tomorrow. In the beginning of the chapter a note packet was given out and will be due on Wednesday before the test.
· Students may get up to 10 points extra credit on their science test! For each Smarker (3 pens and a highlighter in one) they purchase they will get 5 points of extra credit on their test. The money will go to the CLS Roof Fund. To get all 10 extra credit points, they could buy 2 Smarkers for a total of $4.00.
· There is a large music project due Wednesday that will not be taken as a late grade. Students need to create an instrument at home out of household items. They were in groups of 3-5 students.
· All students should be at 30% of their point goal by Friday. They also need to be at an average of at least 75% for comprehension as that is the most important grade for A.R. Please remember you may check online from our website to see how your child performed on an A.R. test and where they are for their goal.
