4th Grade

School is starting soon!   I hope you have had a great summer and are ready to get back into the school routine.  One of the hardest things will be to get used to getting up early again.  To make that transition easier, start going to bed earlier now and get up earlier in the morning. 

Here's the news for the week in 4th grade...

 

 

This is the 4th grade newsletter for the week.

Our musical is this Sunday at both services, and the children are doing a great job.  Please review their speaking parts with them at home this week.  The children should come in their costumes to church on Sunday.  They should be here by 7:30 to warm up.

 

We practice this Wednesday at the usual time and will finish shortly after 4:30p.m.  We also practice this Saturday from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.  These practices are very important, and every singer needs to be here.

 

After the musical Sunday, Youth Choir will be over for the year.  There is a scheduling conflict for some of the singers on the April date we were scheduled to sing, so we are cancelling that.  We will schedule a picnic on a Wednesday at a later date when the weather is a bit warmer.

Reminder:  Youth Choir will rehearse from 3:30-4:30 each Wednesday in March as we prepare for our Musical on Sunday, March 29th. Animals are due Wednesday, March 18th.

Dear Parents,

 

We pray you all kept safe and warm this past week with all the extreme cold we experienced!

 

We will not be sending home a Tuesday letter and papers this week.  Look for them next Tuesday.

 

Look for details on when our next tests will be in your children's planners.  The Social Studies test will be postponed probably until Monday of next week.  We will take last week's Reading and Spelling tests Tues., Jan. 20th.  Most likely we will have our next Reading and Spelling tests this Friday.

 

AR goal for Fun Friday is 22% with 85% accuracy and 15% for sports eligibility and recess.  You can check this on the Accelerated Reader website.

 

We're looking forward to watching the Inauguration Tuesday as a class!

This is our news for the first week of the New Year.

Performance Day will take place in Music classes the first week in January beginning with Tuesday classes.  Children can prepare a hymn, praise song, or church Christmas carol to sing from memory or play a piece on their band instrument or recorder.  This will earn  25 extra credit points on their music grade for this quarter!

Remember all students in our school are participating at the Taste of CLS on Thursday, Dec. 4th, and need to be here by 6:15 p.m.  dressed in white shirts, black pants or skirts, dark socks, and school shoes.  This will be a very special Christmas program, and it will count as a double music grade for every student.  The children have been working very hard on their music.  See you there!

Happy Thanksgiving!  Here is our news for our short week of school.

Our 3rd-5th grade choir sings this Sunday at the early service at St. Peters Lutheran Church in East Peoria.  This is just a small way we can thank them for the trememdous financial and volunteer support they provide for our school and your child's education.  Attendance is required and counts as a double music grade.  Children need to wear their black pants or skirts, white shirts, and school shoes.  They need to arrive by 7:40a.m. to warm up.

 

Directions:  Using the Cedar Street (Route 116) bridge stay in the left lane.  Exit toward East Peoria.  Just past the Kroger Store on the right, turn right at the light onto Washington Street.  At the third street on the right, turn right on Cole.  St. Peters will be on the right side of the street with the parking lots on the left.

Dear Parents,

We are postponing our Glasford outdoors field trip to next Friday, October 31st.  The weather outlook for this Friday is cold and rainy, and there is no building the whole class could go into to keep dry. It looks like it will be warmer and dry next week.  We wanted to let you know today to accomodate those who need to take off work.  Please let Mrs. Von Behren know whether you can still help with the trip or not next week.

Youth Choir Notes

Dear Parents,

Next week CLS dismisses at 12:00 for Parent Teacher conferences.  We still plan to have Youth Choir at the usual time (3:35-4:10).  If you need aftercare before choir, you need to let Mary Ryan know before this Friday.  If your child cannot attend, I need to know by tomorrow.

          This is our weekly letter that will be sent home each Tuesday with papers for the week attached.

 

New 4th graders!  I pray you're having a wonderful summer.  Click below for some ideas to keep reading this summer.

 

Keep practicing your cursive over the summer.  We will do all our work in cursive next school year.  A good way to practice is by writing letters to relatives each week.  Another fun thing to do is write short reports about your vacation each day in a journal (a spiral notebook works great!).
