There is a note attached to this newsletter in regards to costumes for the school musical Dragon Quest. Additional notes will be coming home in the weeks to come. Our class has been busy practicing their parts on stage and learning new songs.
We are continuing to learn new concepts, as well as to review old ones, in our math curriculum. It is important that you go over Side B of the math sheet that is sent home for homework with your child Monday through Thursday. Those students who receive extra help at home have a greater understanding of the concepts, and therefore perform much better during testing each week. Your continued support is invaluable!

The Morning Prayer
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen. (By Martin Luther)

Dear Parents,
Last Wednesday, Rob, from the Illinois Dept. of Natural Resources, brought containers of fish and reptiles to our CLS parking lot in his boat. He gave us a great, hands-on presentation. If your child hasn't already shared with you a few fish stories, you may want to ask them about it today! (Did they mention the 40 pound flat head catfish or the snapping turtles?)
Each Wednesday we have Chapel at 10:00 a.m. in the Church Sanctuary. The service usually lasts thirty minutes. Parents and other relatives are encouraged to join us and sit in the back pews with your child/children. It is often a special treat to have a parent or loved one show up unexpectedly at Chapel!
Just a reminder! No school this Friday, October 10, and Monday October 13.
Some of the students have already turned in their “foot reports” for The Pizza Hut Book-It Program for the month of October. Congratulations for getting a head start! The requirements are:
1.Completion of one “foot report” on ANY book (done at home)
2. Read Genesis 1:1-31, illustrate it on a piece of paper, color it nicely and label the drawing with Genesis 1:1-31 and your name. (done at home) Both items due by October 24.

Our class will be participating in the Pizza Hut Book-It Program beginning this month and continuing through the month of March. This is an extra opportunity for your child to read and is not a homework assignment. No grade will be given out. The children receive a certificate for a personal pan pizza, and a sticker to put on the dragon bulletin board in the classroom. If you choose to participate, the requirements each month for second graders are:
1. Complete one “Foot Report” on any book you have at home (not just an Accelerated Reading book!) A “Foot Report” form is attached to this newsletter. This must be completed at home.
2. Read the assigned Bible reading and then illustrate it (draw a picture and color it) and label it. For the month of October, the Bible reading is Genesis 1:1-31. (So the label would be Genesis 1:1-31 on the corner of the picture) This also needs to be done at home.
These requirements are due by Friday, October 24, but they can be done early.
Have a great week!

Dear Parents,
Mid term reports will be coming home with your child this Wednesday, September 24. After reviewing your child’s grades with them, please sign the form and return it by this Friday, September 26. If there is an area in which your child should be doing better, please remember that all of your child’s corrected work comes home each Monday. Going over your child’s papers with them is a great way to reinforce new and old curriculum taught in the classroom.

Dear parents,
The second graders are now checking out three or four books at the library each week. They can only bring home one book each evening and they need to bring it back to school each day. After your child takes a test during the week, I will then keep that book. Please ask your child each night to read for you from their library book, as well as from their reader.
