July 2011
Welcome to Mrs. Lelm’s second grade! I hope you have all had a fun summer. This year promises to be a good one, blessed by our Lord. I have listed below some information for the beginning weeks of our year together.
1. Please drop your child off between 8:00 a.m. and 8:10 a.m. each morning unless they are in “before care.” Children who come into the building before 8:00 a.m. must go into the gym until they are released by Mary Ryan.
2. Expect some homework each day beginning the second week of school.
Monday Spelling Words, Memory Work, Math Worksheet and story in blue reader
Tuesday Math Worksheet and story in blue reader
Wednesday Math Worksheet and story in blue reader
Thursday Math Worksheet and story in blue reader
Friday No Homework
3. Memory work (in Monday’s newsletter) needs to be said on Thursday of each week. Please help your child with this activity. Students receive a letter grade on their report card for memory work.
4. Homework Folder
Your child will be using a yellow homework folder to bring items home from school every day. Please check it daily for homework and messages.
Please check your child’s folder each Monday for four things.
a. A Weekly Newsletter (This will include the memory work and spelling words for the week.)
b. A Church and Sunday School Form (This blue note needs to be signed and returned each Tuesday morning.)
c. Corrected Papers from the previous week (Please review these papers and make corrections with your child each week.)
d. List of Memory Work and Prayers for the first two grading periods is on the back of the yellow take home folder. Please keep it there for reference each week.
5. Please feel free to call me or send a written message if there is anything of which I should be aware of like doctor appointments, “out of the ordinary” happenings at home, problems , or just concerns, whether academic or otherwise. It does help to keep the lines of communication open. I can be reached in the evenings or on the weekend at 453-4583.
6. I would appreciate a note to explain any medicine needed at school, any reason for staying indoors for recess, or any allergies your child may have. (Verbal instructions from children are not always “the whole story!”)
7. Please keep toys at home, including plastic wrist bracelets and watches.
8. Information about Accelerated Reading for second graders will be coming home next week.
I am looking forward to our year together. I’m sure you will make over successes and encourage positive behavior. Together we will watch these children grow through another year; spiritually, physically, and academically. Pray for us (for me), as I will be praying for you.
In our Lord’s Service,
Mrs. Lelm
